Daniel Meets the Minis

It's been a little strange learning about the mini cows and ranch life without our oldest son here. Being a senior in high school when we moved to Texas, Daniel wanted to finish school in California. And why not? He was already attending an amazing boarding school for boys, St. Michael's Prep in Silverado. So after spending three days of Thanksgiving break driving to Texas, Daniel flew back to school. He was able to come home to visit for Christmas and Easter, and then...
The whole family took off last Sunday and flew to California for Daniel's high school graduation. It takes a lot of luggage (and possibly more courage) to travel by air with a family of 9, but somehow we all got there and back unscathed. At least physically.
While we were off-ranch our amazing neighbors took the reigns - or leads - and pulled cow duty, as well as taking care of our dog and two cats. There was feeding, watering, administering meds to a reluctant heifer, and treating the ringworm. I don't want to say my neighbors are better than yours, but...
Now that we are back, Daniel finally got to meet the zebu. I know he was a little apprehensive at first, but since Layla is buddies with the cows, and Daniel and Layla are buddies, it will all be right as rain very soon.
Speaking of rain, we had some today. it was glorious since the clouds and wind kept the temps down.
It's good to be home. And it's good to have the whole family together for the summer to enjoy each other and the amateur ranch life.
